Scottsdale is a city located in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is known as "The West's Most Western Town" and is famous for its vibrant arts and culture scene, luxurious resorts, and beautiful desert landscapes. With a population of 258,069 as of 2020, Scottsdale is the sixth-largest city in Arizona.
History
Scottsdale was founded in 1888 by Army Chaplain Winfield Scott. Originally, it was a small farming community known for its fertile land and mild climate. Over the years, Scottsdale experienced rapid growth and development, transforming into a thriving city. In 1951, it was incorporated as a town, and in 1972, it became a city.
Geography
Scottsdale is located in the eastern part of Maricopa County, in the Sonoran Desert. It covers a total area of 184.4 square miles, with 184.2 square miles of land and 0.2 square miles of water. The city is situated at an elevation of 1,257 feet above sea level.
