Satkhira Medical College (pronunciation: /sætˈkɪrə ˈmɛdɪkəl ˈkɒlɪdʒ/) is a government medical college in Bangladesh, established in 2011. It is located in the Satkhira District of the Khulna Division.

Etymology

The name "Satkhira" is derived from the ancient Bengali words "Shat" (meaning seven) and "Khir" (meaning a small water channel), indicating the geographical features of the area. The term "Medical College" is a common term used to denote institutions providing education and training in the field of medicine.

History

Satkhira Medical College was established in 2011 as part of the government's plan to improve the healthcare sector in Bangladesh. The college is affiliated with the University of Rajshahi and is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).

Courses

The college offers a five-year course leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. After completing the course, students are required to do a one-year internship in the Satkhira Medical College Hospital.
