Early Life and Education[edit]
Sarbeswar Sahariah was born in Assam, India. He pursued his medical education at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where he completed his MBBS degree. He further specialized in surgery and obtained his MS degree from the same institution. Driven by a passion for organ transplantation, he pursued advanced training in transplant surgery in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Dr. Sahariah began his career as a transplant surgeon at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where he was involved in the early development of the kidney transplant program. He later moved to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, where he established a successful kidney and pancreas transplant program.
Contributions to Transplant Surgery[edit]
Dr. Sahariah is credited with performing the first successful pancreas transplant in India. His work has significantly improved the outcomes of kidney and pancreas transplants in the country.
