Sam Nunn

Sam Nunn is a prominent figure in American politics, best known for his long tenure as a United States Senator from Georgia. He served in the Senate from 1972 to 1997, during which time he was a leading voice on issues related to national security, foreign policy, and defense.

Early Life and Education

Sam Nunn was born on September 8, 1938, in Macon, Georgia. He attended Georgia Tech, where he earned a degree in business administration. He later attended Emory University School of Law, where he received his law degree.

Political Career

Nunn began his political career in the Georgia House of Representatives, serving from 1968 to 1972. He was then elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served for 24 years. During his time in the Senate, Nunn was known for his expertise in defense and foreign policy issues. He served as the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and was a leading voice on issues related to national security.

Post-Senate Career

After retiring from the Senate, Nunn co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the global threats from nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. He served as the co-chairman and CEO of NTI from its founding in 2001 until 2017.
