Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center

St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center is a 296-bed not-for-profit hospital located in Smithtown, New York. It was originally opened in 1962 as St. John's Smithtown Hospital and was renamed St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in 1999. The hospital is affiliated with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and serves as a major regional clinical campus for clinical clerkships and postgraduate medical training. It is a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island.

History

Construction on St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center began in 1962 on a 74-acre plot of land in Smithtown, Long Island. It was opened by the Church Charity Foundation of Long Island under the name St. John's Smithtown Hospital. In its first five years of operation, the hospital's staff grew from 160 employees to 357 full-time employees and 151 part-time employees, providing services to nearly 100,000 patients. The hospital has since become a prominent healthcare institution in the region.
