Sabal (/səˈbɑːl/), also known as the cabbage palmetto, is a genus of New World palms, many of the species being known as palmetto.
Etymology
The name Sabal is derived from the Latin word sabalum, which was used by Pliny the Elder to refer to a type of palm tree.
