Ryan Hreljac

Ryan Hreljac is a Canadian activist best known for his work in founding the Ryan's Well Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing access to clean water in developing countries. Born on May 31, 1991, in Kemptville, Ontario, Ryan's journey began at the age of six when he learned about the global water crisis in his first-grade class. Disturbed by the fact that people, especially children, had to walk great distances for water, he embarked on a mission to raise funds to build a well in Africa.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Ryan Hreljac was raised in Kemptville, Ontario, where he attended Holy Cross Catholic School. His early exposure to the global water crisis sparked a passion for activism and philanthropy that would define his life's work. Despite his young age, Ryan was determined to make a difference, demonstrating the impact that one individual can have on addressing global challenges.
Ryan's Well Foundation[edit]
In 1998, with the support of his family, friends, and community, Ryan began raising money to build his first well in Uganda. His initial goal was to raise $70, the amount he believed was needed to drill a well. However, after learning that the actual cost was $2,000, he did not deter but instead intensified his fundraising efforts. His story captured the hearts of people around the world, leading to the establishment of the Ryan's Well Foundation. Since its inception, the foundation has helped fund over 1,000 projects in 16 countries, providing clean water and sanitation to over 800,000 people.
Impact and Recognition[edit]
Ryan Hreljac's work has earned him numerous awards and recognitions, including the Order of Ontario and the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada. His efforts have been featured in various media outlets, highlighting the significant impact that one young person can have on the world. Ryan's story is a testament to the power of determination, compassion, and the belief that everyone, regardless of age, can contribute to making the world a better place.
Continued Advocacy[edit]
Beyond the success of the Ryan's Well Foundation, Ryan Hreljac has continued to advocate for access to clean water and sanitation. He has spoken at numerous schools, conferences, and events around the world, inspiring others to take action on global issues. Ryan's commitment to his cause and his ability to inspire action in others have made him a prominent figure in the field of global water crisis activism.
Legacy[edit]
Ryan Hreljac's legacy is one of hope, determination, and the belief that anyone can make a difference. Through the Ryan's Well Foundation, he has not only provided essential resources to those in need but has also raised awareness about the global water crisis and inspired others to take action.
