Ryan Adams
Ryan Adams (born November 5, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and poet. He is best known for his solo career and as a former member of the alternative country band Whiskeytown. Over the course of his career, Adams has released numerous albums and has been recognized for his contributions to the alternative rock and country music genres.
Early Life
Ryan Adams was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He developed an interest in music at a young age and began playing the guitar when he was 14. Adams dropped out of high school to pursue a career in music, eventually moving to Raleigh, North Carolina.
Career
Whiskeytown
In 1994, Adams formed the band Whiskeytown with Caitlin Cary, Phil Wandscher, Eric "Skillet" Gilmore, and Steve Grothmann. The band became a significant part of the alternative country movement of the 1990s. Whiskeytown released three albums: Faithless Street (1995), Strangers Almanac (1997), and Pneumonia (2001).
Solo Career
After Whiskeytown disbanded, Adams launched a successful solo career. His debut solo album, Heartbreaker, was released in 2000 to critical acclaim. He followed this with several more albums, including Gold (2001), Demolition (2002), and Rock n Roll (2003).
In 2005, Adams released three albums: Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights, and 29. His prolific output continued with albums such as Easy Tiger (2007), Ashes & Fire (2011), and Ryan Adams (2014).
The Cardinals
In addition to his solo work, Adams formed the backing band The Cardinals in 2004. The band played on several of his albums, including Cold Roses and Cardinology (2008).
Personal Life
Adams has been open about his struggles with substance abuse and mental health. He has also been involved in various controversies, including allegations of sexual misconduct.
