Russian submarine Losharik

Russian submarine Losharik (Project 10831) is a nuclear submarine operated by the Russian Navy. Named after a fictional horse from a Russian animated film, the submarine is one of the most secretive vessels in the Russian fleet. It is a deep-diving, small-sized submarine that is believed to be used for special missions.

Design and capabilities

The Losharik is a unique design among submarines. It is believed to have a series of interconnected spheres, which provide greater depth resistance, allowing the submarine to dive to depths of up to 6,000 meters. The submarine is powered by a nuclear reactor, which provides it with a virtually unlimited range and endurance.

Service history

In 2019, the Losharik was involved in a serious accident when a fire broke out on board. Fourteen sailors were killed in the incident, which was one of the worst submarine disasters in recent Russian history.
