Procedure

A proctoscope, a hollow tube with a light on the end, is inserted into the anus to provide a clear view of the area. The doctor then uses a special instrument to place a small rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid. This cuts off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid, causing it to shrink and eventually fall off within a week.

Effectiveness

Rubber band ligation is considered to be one of the most effective treatments for hemorrhoids. Studies have shown that it is successful in about 80% of cases. However, it may not be as effective for large hemorrhoids or for those that do not respond to other treatments.

Risks and Complications

Aftercare
