Rossini (Cocktail)

The Rossini is a popular cocktail that is a variation of the classic Strawberry Bellini. Named after the famous Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, it is a delightful blend of strawberry puree and sparkling wine, typically Prosecco.

Ingredients

The Rossini cocktail requires only two main ingredients:

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Prosecco

Preparation

To prepare a Rossini cocktail, follow these steps:

  1. Clean and hull the strawberries.
  2. Puree the strawberries in a blender until smooth.
  3. Pour the strawberry puree into a champagne flute, filling about one-third of the glass.
  4. Top up the glass with chilled Prosecco.
  5. Stir gently to mix the ingredients.

Variations

There are several variations of the Rossini cocktail, including:

  • Kir Royal: This is a similar cocktail that uses crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur) instead of strawberry puree.
  • Mimosa: Another similar cocktail that uses orange juice instead of strawberry puree.
  • Bellini: The original cocktail that the Rossini is based on, which uses peach puree instead of strawberry.

Serving

The Rossini cocktail is typically served in a champagne flute. It is often garnished with a fresh strawberry on the rim of the glass. It is a popular choice for brunch, as well as for celebrations and special occasions.

History

The Rossini cocktail is named after the 19th-century Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, who is best known for his operas, including The Barber of Seville and William Tell. The cocktail is believed to have been created in Venice, Italy, a city known for its love of Prosecco and fresh fruit.
