Robert Huber

Robert Huber (born 20 February 1937) is a German biochemist and Nobel laureate in Chemistry. He is best known for his work in the field of protein crystallography, particularly for determining the structure of the photosynthetic reaction center.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Robert Huber was born in Munich, Germany. He studied chemistry at the Technical University of Munich, where he received his PhD in 1963. His doctoral research focused on the structure of organic compounds.
Career and Research[edit]
After completing his PhD, Huber joined the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, where he began his pioneering work in protein crystallography. In 1988, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with Hartmut Michel and Johann Deisenhofer for their determination of the three-dimensional structure of the photosynthetic reaction center in certain bacteria.
Huber's research has significantly advanced the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of photosynthesis, which is fundamental to biochemistry and molecular biology. His work has also contributed to the development of new techniques in X-ray crystallography.
Awards and Honors[edit]
In addition to the Nobel Prize, Robert Huber has received numerous awards and honors, including:
- The Otto Warburg Medal
- The Ciba-Geigy Prize
- Membership in the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina
- Foreign membership in the Royal Society
Personal Life[edit]
Robert Huber is married and has three children. He continues to be active in research and academia, contributing to various scientific publications and conferences.
