Razor (/ˈreɪzər/), from the Old French rasor, is a bladed tool primarily used in the removal of unwanted body hair through the act of shaving.
Etymology
The term "razor" comes from the Old French rasor, which was derived from rasier meaning "to scrape or shave". It was first used in English in the 14th century.
Types of Razors
There are several types of razors including:
- Straight razor: A straight razor has a blade that can fold into its handle. They are also known as cut-throat razors.
- Safety razor: A safety razor is a shaving implement with a protective device positioned between the edge of the blade and the skin.
- Electric razor: An electric razor has a rotating or oscillating blade. The electric razor usually does not require the use of shaving cream, soap, or water.
