Rand Paul

Rand Paul (pronounced /rænd pɔːl/) is an American politician and physician serving as the junior United States Senator from Kentucky since 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party and the son of former U.S. Representative and presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Etymology

The name "Rand" is a diminutive of "Randall," which is derived from the Old Germanic elements "rand" (meaning "rim" or "shield") and "wulf" (meaning "wolf"). The surname "Paul" is of Latin origin, from "Paulus" meaning "small" or "humble."
