Radionics
Radionics
Radionics (/ˌreɪdioʊˈnɪks/) is a field of alternative medicine that claims disease can be diagnosed and treated by applying electromagnetic radiation (EMR), such as radio waves, to the body from an electrically powered device. It is also sometimes referred to as electromagnetic therapy or vibrational medicine.
Etymology
The term "radionics" was coined in the early 20th century from "radiation" and the then popular suffix "-onics". It was originated by Albert Abrams, an American physician and inventor, who believed that electromagnetic radiation could be used to diagnose and treat disease.
Concept
Radionics posits that all living organisms emit unique energy frequencies, and that these frequencies can be manipulated to diagnose and treat illness. Practitioners use a device known as a radionics device to detect these frequencies and to send healing frequencies to the patient's body.
Criticism
Radionics has been widely criticized by the mainstream medical community. The American Medical Association and the Food and Drug Administration have both stated that radionics devices are ineffective and that their use could potentially lead to harmful delays in proper medical treatment.
