Qibla Cola

Qibla Cola

Qibla Cola was a cola-flavoured carbonated beverage that originated in the United Kingdom. It was launched in 2003 by the Qibla Cola Company, which was based in Derby. The company's mission was to provide a halal alternative to mainstream cola brands, with a focus on ethical consumerism.

History

The Qibla Cola Company was founded by Zahida Parveen, a British entrepreneur. The company was named after the Qibla, the direction that Muslims face when performing their prayers. The idea for the company came about as a response to the perceived unethical practices of major multinational corporations, particularly those in the food and beverage industry.

Product Line

In addition to its flagship product, Qibla Cola, the company also produced a range of other beverages. These included Qibla 7-Up, Qibla Pepsi, and Qibla Diet Cola. Each of these products was marketed as a halal alternative to their mainstream counterparts.

Ethical Consumerism

One of the key selling points of Qibla Cola was its commitment to ethical consumerism. The company pledged to donate 10% of its net profits to charitable causes. This was in line with the Islamic principle of Zakat, which requires Muslims to give a portion of their income to the needy.

Market Reception

Qibla Cola was initially well-received in the UK, particularly among the Muslim community. However, the company faced stiff competition from established cola brands, as well as other halal beverage companies. Despite its early promise, the Qibla Cola Company ceased operations in 2005.

Legacy

While Qibla Cola may no longer be in production, its impact on the beverage industry is still felt today. It was one of the first companies to promote ethical consumerism in the food and beverage industry, a trend that has since gained traction worldwide.
