Public Health Nutrition (pronunciation: /ˈpʌblɪk hɛlθ njuːˈtrɪʃən/) is a field of study focused on the promotion of good health through nutrition and the primary prevention of nutrition related illness in the population.

Etymology

The term "Public Health Nutrition" is derived from the English words "public", "health", and "nutrition". "Public" (from the Latin "publicus") refers to the people as a whole. "Health" (from the Old English "hælþ") refers to the state of being free from illness or injury. "Nutrition" (from the Latin "nutrire") refers to the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.
