Protest (/prəˈtɛst/) is a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something. The term originates from the Latin protestari, which means to declare publicly, testify, protest.
Definition
A protest is a public demonstration of objection towards an idea or course of action. It is often used as a method of publicly making opinions heard in an attempt to influence public opinion or government policy. Protests can take many different forms, from individual statements to mass demonstrations.
Types of Protests
There are several types of protests, including but not limited to:
- Demonstration: A public display of group feelings toward a person or cause.
- March: A mode of protest that involves walking in a mass movement in order to draw attention to a cause.
- Sit-in: A form of protest where individuals occupy an area and refuse to leave.
- Strike: A work stoppage caused by the mass refusal of employees to work. It is usually a form of protest intended to force an employer to meet the demands of the employees.
