Progressive Massive Fibrosis

Progressive Massive Fibrosis (PMF) (pronounced: pro-gres-iv mas-iv fai-bro-sis) is a severe form of pneumoconiosis characterized by the presence of large masses of fibrotic tissue in the lungs.

Etymology

The term "Progressive Massive Fibrosis" is derived from the progressive nature of the disease, the massive fibrotic masses that form in the lungs, and the term "fibrosis" which refers to the formation of excess fibrous connective tissue in an organ.
