Preparedness (/prɪˈpɛrɪdnəs/) is the state of being ready or prepared, especially for potential challenges or emergencies. The term is often used in the context of public health, emergency management, and disaster response.

The term "preparedness" originates from the late 16th century, from the verb "prepare" and the suffix "-ness", which forms nouns from adjectives.
