Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase - (pronounced) (PAH-Lee (. . . RY-Bose) Puh-LIH-Meh rays) type of enzyme involved in many cell functions, including repairing DNA damage. DNA damage can be caused by normal cell action, UV light, some cancer drugs, and radiation used to treat cancer. Inhibitors of an enzyme, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1, are being studied for the treatment of cancer. Also called PARP
