Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is a major airport in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the primary airport serving the Delaware Valley region, which includes parts of Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The airport is located about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of downtown Philadelphia.
History
Philadelphia International Airport was originally established in 1925 as Hog Island, a training airfield for the United States Army Air Service. It was later renamed Philadelphia Municipal Airport in 1940 and began commercial operations. The airport was renamed Philadelphia International Airport in 1945 when it began offering international flights.
Facilities
PHL covers an area of 2,302 acres and has four runways. The airport has seven terminals (A-West, A-East, B, C, D, E, and F) with a total of 126 gates. Terminal A-West is primarily used for international flights, while the other terminals handle domestic flights.

PHL is accessible by various modes of transportation, including SEPTA's Airport Line, which provides direct rail service to Center City, Philadelphia. The airport is also served by several bus routes, taxis, ride-sharing services, and rental car facilities.

Philadelphia International Airport has undergone several expansion projects to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and improve facilities. Recent developments include the expansion of Terminal F and the construction of a new parking garage.
