PerkinElmer (/ˈpɜːrkɪn ˈɛlmər/) is an American multinational corporation focused in the business areas of diagnostics, life science research, food, environmental and industrial testing. Its capabilities include detection, imaging, informatics, and service.
Etymology
The name "PerkinElmer" is derived from the merger of two companies, "Perkin-Elmer" and "EG&G". The former was founded by Richard Perkin and Charles Elmer in 1937, while the latter was established by Harold "Doc" Edgerton, Kenneth Germeshausen, and Herbert Grier in 1947.
