Perkin's Line (pronunciation: /ˈpɜːr.kɪnz ˈlaɪn/) is a significant anatomical landmark used in the assessment of hip disorders, particularly in children.
Etymology
The term is named after British surgeon William Perkin, who first described the line in the late 19th century.
Definition
Perkin's Line is a vertical line drawn on an anteroposterior radiograph of the pelvis. It is drawn perpendicular to Hilgenreiner's line at the lateral edge of the acetabular roof. The intersection of Perkin's Line and Hilgenreiner's Line creates four quadrants which are used to assess the position of the femoral head.
