Paul Levitz
Paul Levitz (born October 21, 1956) is an American comic book writer, editor, and executive. He is best known for his work at DC Comics, where he served as the company's president and publisher from 2002 to 2009. Levitz is particularly noted for his long-running work on the Legion of Super-Heroes series.
Early Life and Career
Paul Levitz was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He began his career in the comic book industry as a teenager, publishing a fanzine called The Comic Reader. This early work brought him to the attention of DC Comics, where he was hired as an assistant editor in 1973.
DC Comics
Levitz quickly rose through the ranks at DC Comics. By the mid-1970s, he was writing for several of the company's titles, including Adventure Comics and All-Star Comics. His most notable early work was on the Legion of Super-Heroes, a series he would return to multiple times throughout his career.
The Legion of Super-Heroes
Levitz's work on the Legion of Super-Heroes is highly regarded by fans and critics alike. His tenure on the series is marked by complex storylines and character development. One of his most famous contributions is the "Great Darkness Saga," which is considered a classic in the genre.
Executive Roles
In 1989, Levitz became the Executive Vice President and Publisher of DC Comics. He played a significant role in the company's expansion and the development of new imprints such as Vertigo and WildStorm. In 2002, he was promoted to President and Publisher, a position he held until 2009.
