Pantry[edit]

A pantry is a room or space in a house where food, provisions, dishes, linens, and other household items are stored. Pantries are often located near the kitchen and are used to keep food and supplies organized and easily accessible.

History[edit]

The concept of the pantry has evolved over time. In medieval times, pantries were used to store bread and other baked goods. The term "pantry" comes from the Old French word "paneterie," which is derived from "pain," meaning bread. Over the centuries, the function of the pantry expanded to include the storage of a variety of foodstuffs and household items.

A butler's pantry is a service room between the kitchen and dining room, traditionally used for storage and staging of food and drink before serving. It often contains cabinetry and countertops for organizing dishes and glassware.

Cold Pantry[edit]

A cold pantry, also known as a larder, is designed to store perishable food items. It is typically located on the north side of a house to keep it cool. Cold pantries often have exterior vents to maintain a lower temperature.
