Pacers (confectionery)
Pacers (confectionery)[edit]
Pacers is a popular British confectionery that was first introduced in the 1970s. The mint-flavored, striped candy was initially known as Opal Mints, but was later rebranded as Pacers. The candy was discontinued in the 1980s, but it still holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of many who grew up during that era.
History[edit]
Pacers was first introduced by the Mars company in the 1970s. The candy was initially launched as Opal Mints, a sister product to the popular Opal Fruits (now known as Starburst). The candy was later rebranded as Pacers, and its packaging was redesigned to feature distinctive green and white stripes.
Product Description[edit]
Pacers were rectangular, mint-flavored candies that were known for their distinctive green and white stripes. The candy was chewy and had a strong mint flavor. In addition to the original mint flavor, Pacers also came in a variety of other flavors, including a spearmint version and a version with three stripes that combined mint and a fruit flavor.
Discontinuation[edit]
Despite its initial popularity, Pacers was discontinued in the 1980s. The exact reasons for its discontinuation are not known, but it is speculated that declining sales and the increasing popularity of other mint candies may have contributed to the decision.
Legacy[edit]
Even though Pacers has been discontinued for several decades, it still holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of many who grew up during the 1970s and 1980s. There have been several online petitions and campaigns calling for the return of Pacers, demonstrating the enduring popularity of this classic British confectionery.
