Ovral
Ovral
Ovral (/ˈoʊvrəl/), also known as Ethinyl Estradiol and Norgestrel, is a combination drug that contains female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medication also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
Etymology
The term "Ovral" is derived from the words "ovary" and "oral", indicating its oral administration and its effect on the ovaries.
Usage
Ovral is used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to regulate the menstrual cycle, treat symptoms of menopause, or treat other conditions as determined by a healthcare provider.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Ovral include nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, or weight change. Serious side effects include lumps in the breast, mood changes, severe stomach pain, unusual changes in vaginal bleeding, and dark urine.
