Nostalgia
Nostalgia (pronunciation: /nɒˈstaldʒə/) is a sentimentality for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. The word nostalgia is learned formation of a Greek compound, consisting of νόστος (nóstos), meaning "homecoming", a Homeric word, and ἄλγος (álgos), meaning "pain" or "ache".

Etymology
The term was coined in 1688 by Johannes Hofer (1669–1752) in his Basel dissertation. Hofer introduced nostalgia or "homesickness" for the condition also known as mal du pays "country sickness" in French or Heimweh "homesickness" in German.
