Non-fiction (pronounced /nɒnˈfɪkʃən/) is a genre of literature that is based on facts, real events, and real people, such as biography or history. It is often contrasted with fiction, which is based on imaginative narration.
Etymology
The term "non-fiction" has been in use since the late 19th century and is derived from the Latin word "non", meaning "not", and the Old French word "ficion", meaning "something invented or imagined".
