Newport Beach, California (pronunciation: /ˈnjuːpɔːrt ˈbiːtʃ, ˈkælɪfɔːrnjə/) is a coastal city in Orange County, California, United States. Its origins can be traced back to the 19th century, with its incorporation as a city taking place in 1906.
Etymology
The name "Newport Beach" is derived from the city's location, which is a beach in the new port. The "California" part of the name is from the Spanish word for "hot furnace" or "lime kiln", which is a reference to the state's hot desert-like climate.

Newport Beach is located in the central coastal area of California. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Irvine to the north, Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach to the north-east and east respectively.
