National Mustard Museum
National Mustard Museum[edit]
The National Mustard Museum is a unique institution dedicated to the preservation and promotion of mustard. It is located in Middleton, Wisconsin, United States. The museum was established in 1992 by Barry Levenson, a former Assistant Attorney General of Wisconsin, who started collecting mustard while in despair over the Milwaukee Brewers losing the 1986 World Series.
History[edit]
The National Mustard Museum was originally located in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, and was known as the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum. In 2000, the museum moved to its current location in Middleton. The museum's collection has grown to include over 6,000 mustards from all 50 states and more than 70 countries.
Collection[edit]
The museum's collection includes a wide variety of mustards, ranging from common yellow mustards to exotic and rare varieties. The collection also includes mustard-related items such as vintage mustard pots, mustard advertisements, and mustard-themed art. The museum also houses the Poupon U, a fictional university dedicated to the study of mustard.
Events[edit]
The National Mustard Museum hosts several events throughout the year, including National Mustard Day, which is celebrated on the first Saturday in August. The event features mustard tasting, games, and live music. The museum also hosts the World-Wide Mustard Competition, where mustards from around the world are judged in various categories.
Visiting the Museum[edit]
Admission to the National Mustard Museum is free, and visitors are encouraged to sample the many different types of mustard on display. The museum also has a gift shop where visitors can purchase a variety of mustards and mustard-related merchandise.
