National Guideline Clearinghouse

The National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) /ˈnæʃənəl ˈɡaɪdlaɪn ˈklɪərɪŋhaʊs/ is a public resource for summaries of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. The term originates from the United States, where the NGC was established by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (now America's Health Insurance Plans).

Etymology

The term "National Guideline Clearinghouse" is a combination of three words. "National" /ˈnæʃənəl/ refers to the nationwide scope of the initiative. "Guideline" /ˈɡaɪdlaɪn/ refers to the evidence-based clinical practice guidelines that the initiative focuses on. "Clearinghouse" /ˈklɪərɪŋhaʊs/ is a term used to describe an agency or organization that collects and distributes something, in this case, guidelines.
