NSF International

NSF International (pronounced en-es-ef International) is an American product testing, inspection and certification organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Etymology

The organization was formerly known as the National Sanitation Foundation (pronounced National San-i-ta-tion Foundation), which explains the acronym NSF. It was founded in 1944 with the aim of standardizing sanitation and food safety at a time when the country was emerging from the Second World War.
