NSF International
NSF International is an American product testing, inspection and certification organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
History[edit]
NSF International was founded in 1944 from the University of Michigan's School of Public Health as the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) to standardize sanitation and food safety at a time when the United States had no national health standards for the food and beverage industry. In 1990, the name was changed to NSF International.
Services[edit]
NSF International provides standards development, product certification, auditing, education and risk management for public health and the environment. Manufacturers, regulators and consumers look to NSF International for the development of public health standards and certification that help protect the world’s food, water, health and consumer products.
Standards[edit]
The standards developed by NSF International are American National Standards by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which means they are developed using a consensus-based process that includes input from industry representatives, public health/regulatory officials and consumers.
Certification[edit]
NSF International is accredited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). NSF certification is accepted by many major retailers, building officials, health departments and food service operators.
