NIMH
NIMH or the National Institute of Mental Health is a part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that is primarily responsible for research into mental health and mental disorders.
History
The NIMH was first established by the United States Congress in 1946, with the aim of conducting research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses.
Research
The NIMH conducts a wide range of research into mental health and mental disorders. This includes basic research into the brain and its functions, as well as clinical research into the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses. The NIMH also funds research at universities and other institutions across the United States.
Programs and Initiatives
The NIMH runs a number of programs and initiatives aimed at improving mental health care in the United States. These include the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention service, and the Mental Health Services Administration, which provides support for mental health services across the country.
