Monica Galetti
Monica Galetti is a renowned chef and television personality, best known for her role as a judge on the popular BBC cooking show, MasterChef: The Professionals. Born in Samoa and raised in New Zealand, Galetti moved to London in 1999 to work at the prestigious Michel Roux Jr.'s Le Gavroche restaurant, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become the first female sous-chef.
Early Life and Career
Galetti was born in Samoa and moved to Wellington, New Zealand at the age of five. She developed a passion for cooking at a young age, which led her to pursue a culinary career. After completing her training at the Central Institute of Technology, Upper Hutt, she worked in several restaurants in New Zealand before moving to London.
In London, Galetti joined the team at Le Gavroche, a two-Michelin-star restaurant run by Michel Roux Jr. Her talent and dedication saw her rise to the position of sous-chef, making her the first woman to hold this position at the restaurant.
Television Career
In 2009, Galetti joined the judging panel of MasterChef: The Professionals, a spin-off of the original MasterChef series. Her critical but fair judging style quickly made her a fan favourite. She has also appeared on other television shows, including Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby, which she co-hosts with Giles Coren.
Personal Life
Galetti is married to French sommelier David Galetti, whom she met while working at Le Gavroche. The couple have one daughter together. In 2017, they opened their own restaurant, Mere, in London.
