Etymology

The term "mole" was first used in a textbook by Fritz Haber and Max Born in 1905. It is derived from the Latin word "moles" which means a 'massive heap' or 'pile'.

The mole is defined as exactly 6.02214076×10²³ elementary entities. This number is known as Avogadro's number, named after the Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro.
