Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing service created by Microsoft for building, testing, deploying, and managing applications and services through Microsoft-managed data centers. It provides software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and supports many different programming languages, tools, and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.
History[edit]
Microsoft announced Azure in October 2008, and it was released on February 1, 2010, as "Windows Azure" before being renamed "Microsoft Azure" on March 25, 2014.
Services[edit]
Microsoft Azure offers a wide range of services, including:
- Compute: Virtual Machines, App Services, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure Functions.
- Networking: Virtual Network, Load Balancer, Application Gateway, and VPN Gateway.
- Storage: Blob Storage, Disk Storage, File Storage, and Queue Storage.
- Databases: Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Database for MySQL, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
- Analytics: Azure Synapse Analytics, HDInsight, and Azure Databricks.
- AI and Machine Learning: Azure Machine Learning, Cognitive Services, and Bot Service.
- Internet of Things (IoT): IoT Hub, IoT Central, and Azure Sphere.
- DevOps: Azure DevOps, Azure DevTest Labs, and Azure Repos.
- Security: Azure Security Center, Azure Key Vault, and Azure DDoS Protection.
- Management and Governance: Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, and Azure Resource Manager.
Regions and Availability Zones[edit]
Azure is available in multiple regions around the world, each consisting of multiple data centers. These regions are divided into Availability Zones to provide high availability and resilience.
Compliance[edit]
Azure meets a broad set of international and industry-specific compliance standards, such as GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, and HIPAA.
Hybrid Cloud[edit]
Azure supports hybrid cloud environments, allowing businesses to integrate on-premises data centers with Azure services. This is facilitated through services like Azure Arc, Azure Stack, and Azure Site Recovery.
Azure Marketplace[edit]
The Azure Marketplace is an online store that offers applications and services either built on or designed to integrate with Azure. It includes both Microsoft and third-party solutions.
