MedlinePlus (pronounced: med-line-plus) is a free health information resource service provided by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), which is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Etymology

The term "MedlinePlus" is a combination of "Medline", the premier bibliographic database of the National Library of Medicine, and "Plus", indicating the addition of consumer health information.

MedlinePlus provides comprehensive information about diseases, conditions, and wellness issues in language that is easy to understand. It offers reliable, up-to-date health information, anytime, anywhere, for free. The service brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations.

Features

MedlinePlus includes the Medical Encyclopedia, which contains articles about diseases, tests, symptoms, injuries, and surgeries. It also includes an extensive library of health topics, drugs and supplements, and medical videos and illustrations.

MedlinePlus also provides a directory of health professionals, services, and facilities, as well as links to preformulated searches of the Medline/PubMed database and other resources.
