Medical Library Association (MLA) is a professional organization for health information professionals and libraries in the United States. Founded in 1898, the MLA provides a platform for health information professionals to share knowledge and expertise, and to promote the improvement of health information services.

History

The Medical Library Association was established in 1898 by four librarians and four physicians in Philadelphia. The association was created with the aim of improving the quality of health information services and promoting the professional development of its members.

Mission

The mission of the MLA is to enhance the quality of healthcare, education, and research in the field of health information. This is achieved through the promotion of excellence in the management and delivery of health information services.

Membership

Membership in the MLA is open to individuals and institutions involved in health information services. Members include health sciences librarians, information specialists, educators, researchers, and others interested in health information.

Activities

The MLA conducts a range of activities to fulfill its mission. These include the publication of the Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA), the organization of annual meetings and other educational events, and the provision of resources and tools for health information professionals.

Journal of the Medical Library Association

The Journal of the Medical Library Association (JMLA) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the MLA. The JMLA publishes original research, reviews, and case studies related to health information.

Annual Meeting
