History

Martini & Rossi was established by Alessandro Martini, Luigi Rossi, and Teofilo Sola. The company initially focused on producing vermouth, a fortified wine flavored with various botanicals. The brand quickly gained popularity and expanded its product line to include sparkling wines, most notably Asti Spumante.

In 1879, after the death of Teofilo Sola, the company was renamed Martini & Rossi. The brand continued to grow, becoming a symbol of Italian style and sophistication. By the early 20th century, Martini & Rossi had established a global presence, exporting its products to numerous countries.

Products

Martini & Rossi is best known for its vermouth, which comes in several varieties:

  • Martini Rosso: The original vermouth, characterized by its rich, sweet flavor and deep red color.
  • Martini Bianco: A lighter, sweeter vermouth with a pale color and vanilla notes.
  • Martini Extra Dry: A dry vermouth with a crisp, clean taste, often used in cocktails such as the Martini.

In addition to vermouth, Martini & Rossi produces a range of sparkling wines, including:

  • Asti Spumante: A sweet, sparkling wine made from Muscat grapes, known for its fruity and floral notes.
  • Prosecco: A dry, sparkling wine made from Glera grapes, popular for its light and refreshing taste.

Marketing and Sponsorship

Martini & Rossi has a long history of innovative marketing and sponsorship. The brand has been associated with various forms of art, culture, and sports. Notably, Martini & Rossi has sponsored Formula One racing teams, including the Williams and Ferrari teams, enhancing its image as a premium and dynamic brand.
