Manila Central University (pronunciation: /məˈnɪlə ˈsɛntrəl juːˈnɪvɜːrsɪti/), often abbreviated as MCU, is a private, non-sectarian, research university located in Caloocan City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Etymology
The name "Manila Central University" is derived from its location in the central part of Metro Manila. The term "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars".
History
Manila Central University was founded in December 1904 as Escuela de Farmacia del Liceo de Manila. It was the first pharmacy school in the Philippines. In 1929, the school was renamed to its current name and expanded its curriculum to include other professional and graduate courses.
