Lynn Elsenhans

Lynn Elsenhans (born 1959) is an American businesswoman who has held several high-profile roles in the energy industry. She is best known for her tenure as the CEO and President of Sunoco, a major American petroleum and petrochemical manufacturer, from 2008 to 2012. Elsenhans was the first woman to lead a major oil company.

Early life and education

Elsenhans was born in 1959 in Houston, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematical Sciences from Rice University in 1978, and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1980.

Career

Elsenhans began her career at Royal Dutch Shell, where she worked for more than 28 years in various roles, including Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing. In 2008, she was appointed as the CEO and President of Sunoco, making her the first woman to lead a major oil company. During her tenure, she led the company through a period of significant restructuring and growth.

In 2012, Elsenhans stepped down from her role at Sunoco and was appointed to the board of directors of Baker Hughes, a leading supplier of oilfield services, products, technology, and systems. She has also served on the boards of several other major corporations, including GlaxoSmithKline and Saudi Aramco.

Recognition

Elsenhans has been recognized for her contributions to the energy industry. In 2009, she was named one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" by Fortune Magazine. In 2010, she was included in the list of "100 Most Powerful Women" by Forbes.

Personal life

Elsenhans is married and has two children. She is a member of the Rice University Board of Trustees and the American Petroleum Institute.
