Early Life and Education[edit]
Lorentz Eldjarn was born in Tromsø, Norway, where he developed an early interest in the natural sciences. He pursued his higher education at the University of Oslo, where he earned his degree in chemistry. His academic journey was marked by a keen interest in the biochemical processes underlying human health and disease.
Career[edit]
Eldjarn's career in biochemistry began at the University of Oslo, where he worked as a researcher. His work focused on the development of biochemical assays that could be used in clinical settings to diagnose and monitor diseases. He was particularly interested in the enzymatic processes and how they could be measured to provide insights into metabolic disorders.
Contributions to Clinical Chemistry[edit]

Eldjarn is best known for his work in clinical chemistry, where he developed several innovative techniques for the analysis of blood and other bodily fluids. His research led to the development of new diagnostic tests that improved the accuracy and reliability of medical diagnoses. One of his notable contributions was the development of methods for measuring enzyme activity in the blood, which became a crucial tool in diagnosing liver and heart diseases.
Later Life and Legacy[edit]
In his later years, Eldjarn continued to contribute to the field of biochemistry through teaching and mentoring young scientists. He was a respected figure in the scientific community, known for his dedication to research and education. Eldjarn's work laid the foundation for many modern diagnostic techniques used in clinical laboratories today.
