An oven (/ˈʌvən/; from Latin furnus, via Old French forn) is a thermally insulated chamber used for the heating, baking, or drying of a substance, and most commonly used for cooking.
Types of Ovens
- Convection Oven - A convection oven (/kənˈvɛkʃən ˈʌvən/) uses a fan to circulate hot air, allowing food to cook more quickly and evenly.
- Conventional Oven - A conventional oven (/kənˈvɛnʃənəl ˈʌvən/) uses radiant heat that emanates from the top and/or bottom surfaces.
- Toaster Oven - A toaster oven (/ˈtoʊstər ˈʌvən/) is a small electric oven with a front door, wire rack and removable baking pan.
- Microwave Oven - A microwave oven (/ˈmaɪkrəweɪv ˈʌvən/) is an electric oven that heats and cooks food by exposing it to electromagnetic radiation in the microwave frequency range.
- Dutch Oven - A Dutch oven (/ˈdʌtʃ ˈʌvən/) is a thick-walled cooking pot with a tight-fitting lid.
- Roaster Oven - A roaster oven (/ˈroʊstər ˈʌvən/) is a versatile countertop appliance that can cook a variety of foods.
- Wood-fired Oven - A wood-fired oven (/ˈwʊdˈfaɪərd ˈʌvən/) is an oven that uses wood fuel for cooking.
- Gas Oven - A gas oven (/ˈgæs ˈʌvən/) is an oven that uses natural gas or propane as fuel.
- Electric Oven - An electric oven (/ɪˈlɛktrɪk ˈʌvən/) is an oven that uses electricity as its heat source.
- Steam Oven - A steam oven (/ˈstiːm ˈʌvən/) is a type of oven that cooks food with steam heat.
- Self-cleaning Oven - A self-cleaning oven (/ˈsɛlfˈkliːnɪŋ ˈʌvən/) is an oven which uses high temperature approximately 500 degrees Celsius (900 degrees Fahrenheit) to burn off leftovers from baking, without the use of any chemical agents.
