List of AM cannabinoids

AM cannabinoids are a series of chemical compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptors in the body. They were first synthesized by Alexandros Makriyannis, from whom they take their name. AM cannabinoids are designed to mimic the effects of natural cannabinoids in the body, such as anandamide and 2-AG, but often have much stronger effects.

History[edit]

The first AM cannabinoid, AM-2201, was synthesized in the late 1990s by Alexandros Makriyannis and his team at Northeastern University. Since then, many other AM cannabinoids have been developed, each with slightly different chemical structures and effects.

Chemistry[edit]

AM cannabinoids are typically indole derivatives, with a variety of substitutions at different positions on the indole ring. The most common substitutions are a naphthoyl group at the 1-position and a alkyl chain at the 3-position. However, other substitutions are also possible, leading to a wide variety of different AM cannabinoids.

Pharmacology[edit]

AM cannabinoids act as agonists at the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. This means they bind to these receptors and activate them, leading to a variety of effects. The exact effects depend on the specific AM cannabinoid, but can include analgesia, sedation, euphoria, and changes in appetite and mood.
