Lifebuoy
Lifebuoy is a brand of soap which was traditionally manufactured by Lever Brothers, a British company founded in 1885. Today, Lifebuoy is produced by Unilever, a multinational consumer goods company. Lifebuoy was originally marketed as a disinfectant soap in an era when hygiene was beginning to be recognized as a key element in disease prevention.
History[edit]
Lifebuoy was launched by Lever Brothers in 1895 in the United Kingdom as a disinfectant soap. The name 'Lifebuoy' was chosen due to the soap's buoyant properties and its original shape, which was reminiscent of a lifebuoy. The soap was initially marketed as a means to combat the cholera epidemic that was prevalent in the UK at the time.
In the early 20th century, Lifebuoy expanded its market to the United States and other countries. The brand became synonymous with personal hygiene and cleanliness, and was often used in public health campaigns.
Product Range[edit]
Lifebuoy offers a range of hygiene products including bar soaps, liquid hand soaps, hand sanitizers, and body washes. The brand is known for its distinctive red color and carbolic smell, although the formulation and scent have changed over the years.
Marketing and Advertising[edit]
Lifebuoy has been known for its innovative and impactful advertising campaigns. The brand's tagline, "Lifebuoy - the soap that saves lives", reflects its positioning as a health and hygiene product.
Social Initiatives[edit]
Lifebuoy has initiated several social campaigns aimed at promoting hygiene practices. These include the 'Help a Child Reach 5' campaign, which focuses on teaching handwashing habits to children in order to reduce child mortality rates.
