Lewis County, Washington is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 80,707. The county seat and largest city is Chehalis. Lewis County was created on December 19, 1845, by the Oregon Provisional Government, making it one of the first counties in the area. It was named after Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The county is located in the southwestern part of the state, bordered by Thurston County to the north, Pierce County to the northeast, Yakima County to the east, Skamania County to the southeast, Cowlitz County to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
