Founded in 1867 by Jacob Leinenkugel and John Miller, it is one of the oldest breweries in the United States. History

The brewery was established in 1867 by Jacob Leinenkugel, a German immigrant, and John Miller. The location in Chippewa Falls was chosen for its proximity to the Chippewa River, which provided a reliable source of water, and the surrounding forests, which supplied the wood needed for brewing and building.
