Leicester Medical School (pronunciation: /ˈlɛstər/ 'les-ter') is a medical school located in Leicester, United Kingdom. It is part of the University of Leicester and is one of the oldest medical schools in the UK, having been established in 1975.

Etymology

The name "Leicester" is derived from the Old English words "Ligora-ceaster" which means "Roman Town of the Ligore". The "Medical School" part of the name refers to the institution's primary function as a place of learning and training for future medical doctors.

History

Leicester Medical School was established in 1975 as part of the University of Leicester. It was one of the first medical schools in the UK to adopt a problem-based learning approach to medical education.
